2010-2014 Projects
Project Area 1: TEACHER CREDENTIALING ALTERNATIVES
| LARC is creating an online database with the official, and alternative, credentialing options for teachers in California, Texas, Ohio, and Michigan, with the intention of expanding to every state over the coming years. The vision for the site is that it will also offer school districts the opportunity to post their current and future openings there as well, making the site an even more practical utility for the profession. Project Area 2: STANDARDS BASED CURRICULUM BUILDING
| National and state-by-state world language teaching and learning standards are the lifeblood of conscious, purposeful implementation of best practices into theworld language classroom. The goal of this project is to create an online database linked to user-generated content and pedagogy, searchable by national and California standards, language, learner level, and type of content/media desired. With every lesson plan, users will see how every part is tied directly to a national and/ or state standard, thereby getting consistent access to both the “what”, “how” and the “why” of language teaching best practices. Project Area 3: DEVELOPING TRANS-CULTURAL COMPETENCE
| Presented at EUROCALL this fall by team leader Dr. Steven Thorne, this portal is expected to go live just after the New Year. The portal will be an open interaction space where synergistic partnerships can emerge; where teachers can interact with researchers (teachers have data and contexts – researchers may want to, and could, help with formal assessment and investigations, publishing, etc), and where future teachers can participate actively in the bridging of the theory-practice with gap while also making vital professional connections with active scholars and practitioners in the field.
