Testing and Assessment Workshop
August 16 – 19, 2010
The spoken test can be a vehicle for better understanding the learner language and shaping the curriculum. Come join us as we write test items for intermediate and advanced tests using CAST, Skype recording software and Moodle. Then we will evaluate responses from previous tests along the dimensions of fluency, discourse and accuracy. Finally we will characterize the learner language in the responses based on duration, syntactic complexity and lexical range.
Monday 8/16: The CAST Framework: utilizing a grid based on content areas and functions.
Tuesday 8/17: CAST test items: rating sample tests; comparison with Skype
Wednesday 8/18: analyzing the ratings using GOLD and NVivo 8.0
Thursday 8/19: Feeding the analysis back into the curriculum; intermediate test items.
