StarTalk Day Camp
Faculty from San Diego State University’s Language Acquisition Resource Center (LARC), the Department of Linguistics, Middle Eastern and Asian Languages, and the California Foreign Language Project, are proposing to offer an intensive summer language program in Persian for up to 60 middle and high school students through the proposed non-residential intensive summer STARTALK program. A unique feature of our proposal is that it is tied to a companion project, a hands-on teacher training institute, which is to be developed through collaboration with the California Foreign Language Project’s Southern California branch, SAILN (Southern Area International Languages Network). Another special feature is the use of master and apprentice teachers in the classroom and the teaching units of small cohorts of 4-5. Finally, we will draw on the richness and diversity of our large Persian speaking community to bring the classroom into the community, and vise-versa.
