Critical Language Training
Provide research and development (R&D) for the purpose of providing critical foreign language training to adult students from the university, military and government agencies with a requirement to speak and understand Arabic (Modern Standard Arabic and Iraqi dialect), Persian and other languages determined by needs assessment with the users. This proof of concept will leverage previous work and test new approaches in curriculum development that will include cultural training and cross cultural competencies with the goal of providing the individuals with functional language skills across many contexts. Higher level course curriculum in Arabic and Persian will be developed. Additional course offerings will be included as well as supplemental tutoring for language skill retention/enhancement. In addition, courses will be created to address the issues of effective teachers in secondary school settings. This effort will be collaborative with other California State University campuses and local post-secondary institutions.
