Program Description:

The goal of this course is to advance highly proficient learners of Persian  along the road to ultimate achievement of Distinguished/level 4 linguistic and cultural skills, the level required to use Persian Competently in professional capacities.

The course emphasize development of skills in speaking, listening, reading and writing through both small group and individualized instruction. The culturally diverse instructional team consists of a Lead Instructor and up to two Assistant Instructors.

During weeks 1-5 intensive instruction will be delivered in blocks of hours/day, Monday-Friday, 9:00AM to 13:00PM. Students will be introduced to the nature of professional level Persian and the following skills:
active listening and reading strategies, debating, adjusting for appropriate register, levels and text types of written and oral discourse, interviewing, nuanced reading of official press and other professional documents. Guest presenters and students will engage in discussions on a wide variety of contemporary issues. The Assistant Instructors will be available to students after class daily from 14:00 to 16:00, one-on-one tutoring.

Onsite instruction will be supplemented by field trips and other cultural activities to venues such as the library, community meetings, museums, sea world, etc., in order to develop expertise in specialized areas such as science, history, and politics. During week 6 students will work independently, but with oversight.
