The Language Acquisition Resource Center (LARC) at San Diego State University is offering its first teacher training program designed specifically for current or aspiring Portuguese language teachers. This is a two-week residential, on-site program, open to six eligible participants: three local to San Diego County, and three from anywhere else in the United States .
About the Teacher Training Program
During the first week of the program, the participants will attend presentations, participate in discussions, and work closely with a Portuguese language lead to develop and expand knowledge about effective teaching and learning practices. The program will focus on comprehensible input, differentiated instruction, and backward design as the main learning goals.
During the second week, the teacher participants will put their newly gained knowledge into practice: they will observe instruction at our STARTalk Portuguese summer camp, prepare teaching materials, act as teaching assistants, and take part in brief teaching episodes.
At the end of the program the successful participants will receive certificate of completion, earn three units of graduate level college credit, and be offered further professional development opportunities through SAILN/California World Language Project (CWLP).
