Southern Area International Languages Network
SAILN offers year-round, standards-based professional development through a series of 40-hour training strands, including Strands A, B, and C, the LCTL Strand, Spanish Strand, and Leadership Strand. These programs serve educators across a variety of instructional settings, including K–12 public schools, heritage and community language schools, and after-school programs. Through these strands, teachers strengthen their instructional practices, expand their professional knowledge, and develop strategies to better support diverse language learners.
Beyond classroom instruction, SAILN prepares educators to take on leadership roles within their schools, districts, and professional communities. Teachers who complete 120 hours of professional development through SAILN Project Modules become CWLP Fellows, opening pathways to serve as SAILN interns and trainers and to contribute to world language education and advocacy at the state level. Mission and Vision
SAILN’s mission is closely connected to the LARC and CSMP’s missions and goals. LARC “fosters effective teaching of world languages locally, regionally, and nationally, and pursues this through initiatives involving research-based design and delivery of language and culture programs, teacher professionalization, and assessment.”
CSMP strives to involve every language teacher in supportive professional learning communities and “supports highly effective teaching, supports English Language Learning and academic literacy, provides technical assistance to partner schools & districts, and assesses the impact of professional development.”
