Language Acquisition Resource Center (LARC) at San Diego State University (SDSU), will offer a four-week STARTALK Dari immersion program in summer 2017. The program will be available to 10 heritage students in grades 9-12. Through thematic curriculum and content-based instruction, students will learn about the history of their native country. Students will improve their linguistic ability across all four modalities; that is, reading, writing, speaking, and listening, as well as cultural competence in their heritage language and culture.
While teachers facilitate the classes, students will be active participants who must take ownership of their learning. Through the use of authentic materials, they will conduct research and demonstrate their understanding through in-class discussions, presentations, writhing summaries, and developing portfolios.
After completion of the program students will earn four units of undergraduate college credit, through the SDSU College of Extended Studies. There are no fees for participation.
