Welcome to the STARTALK Persian Teacher Training Program at San Diego State University!

Language Acquisition Resource Center (LARC) at San Diego State University (SDSU) will offer a two-week (60 hours) online professional development course for 12 practicing Persian community school language teachers with advanced proficiency in Persian and English and more than three years of experience teaching Persian in grades 1-12. The curriculum for this program will allow participants to focus on key characteristics and strategies in learner-centered instruction, which will enable them to advance their students' oral interpersonal skills and assist them in creating lessons and activities that help learners break through the learning ceiling. Participants will work with experienced Persian language educators in three groups based on the age range of their learners (elementary, middle, and high school) - each group will create a lesson plan template for their respective age group, and each participant will create a lesson plan for their classroom. The workshop is followed by 30 hours of monthly follow-up sessions with the coach (5 hours per session) during the fall 2021 and spring 2022. Upon successful completion, the participants will be awarded three units of undergraduate college credit through the SDSU World Campus.

  • Date: July 6 - July 16, 2021
